Access to Legislation

The New Zealand Government embarked on a project to develop free internet access to New Zealand legislation.  Beginning with an initial discussion paper in 1998 from the Parliamentary Counsel Office, there had been a consultation process to identify needs and preferences for the new system.  The New Zealand Law Librarians' Group made submissions on the original paper, and subsequently was asked for further comment by the Parliamentary Counsel Office.

Information and publications on the Public Access to Legislation Project (PAL) can be found on the website of the Parliamentary Counsel Office.

In an NZ Lawyer article, New Zealand Law Librarians' Inc.  urged the Government to adopt the recommendation made by the Regulations Review Committee for a centralized tertiary legislation register. President Helga Arlington suggested that this could be achieved by extending the Government's Public Access to Legislation project.
