About LAW-LIB

What is LAW-LIB?

LAW-LIB is the NZLLA e-mail discussion list. General and subscription information is available from the VUW list site.

It was started as a means of facilitating better communication between  members. It is unmoderated and open to any interested parties including legal publishers. It is used for day to day communication, general administration and as a means of quickly passing information on to a large number of members. We encourage you to post meeting notices, general notices, agenda items, requests for research assistance and any library-related news.

Anyone with an interest in law librarianship, legal information issues, legal publishing, etc is welcome to join.  Postings to the list will be accepted only from subscribers.

Any posts to this list should be treated as public messages. We suggest that you do not post anything to the list that you would not be prepared to stand up in a public forum and voice.

Please read the LAW-LIB Code of Conduct.  The NZLLA wishes to encourage free flow of ideas, issues, debate and discussion.  We reserve the right to unsubscribe any subscriber consistently offending against the code of conduct, or "spamming" the list.

LAW-LIB Code of Conduct
The aim of the list was to provide a vehicle for informed discussion on issues relating to law libraries and law librarianship, to encourage the interchange of information and ideas in these areas and to provide a forum in which to seek assistance with difficult reference enquiries. Latterly the use of the list has declined because of the public nature of this type of communication.
- Anyone with an interest in the area may join
- Authors and publishers are eligible to join the list

Content
- All communication must be professional and courteous.
- Messages should be brief and to-the-point.
- The list is not to be used for advertising or commercial purposes.  Publishers may use the list to inform subscribers of a significant new development, eg, a software update or change in company policy, of the availability of a product and of any special offers, eg, free trials of CD or on-line titles.
- Include full contact details in any message posted, especially an e-mail address.

Caveat.

Many law-lib lists are closely monitored by the legal publishers in each country. In Australia a private list has been started to enable a frank discussion of current issues. The list is joined by invitation only. The traffic on the New Zealand law-lib has dropped dramatically since it was started.
